Cambodia Gambling Halls

[ English ]

There is an appealing background to the Cambodia gambling dens that lie just over the border from next door Thailand, in which casino gaming is not legal. Eight gambling halls are situated in a relatively tiny location in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia casinos is in a perfect destination, a three to 4 hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest gaming centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a huge business with Thai blue-collar workers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The amazing income acquired from the casinos ranges from 7.5 million dollars to over 12.5 million, and there are a number of restrictions constraints for casino ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mainly Thai; although, financing sources are vague. The borders are officially open from 0900 to 1700, and although visas are for all intents and purposes needed to pass, there are ways around this, as is real of many border crossings.

The original Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving just one gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored bateau gambling den, features one hundred and fifty slot machine games and sixty gaming tables. The Naga gambling hall never closes with forty two tables of mini-punto banco, four tables of chemin de fer, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The initial casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown quickly followed. There are 150 slot machines and five table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machine games and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights 300 slot machines and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slots and ninety six gaming tables, including 87 baccarat chemin de fer (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machine games and 66 of the common tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight casinos in Poipet, also a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machine games and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a comprehensive vacation and hotel building that contains many comforts accompanying the casino, which contains 10,000 sq.ft. of 130 slot machines and eighty eight table games.
